More

 More

The LORD spoke to Moses, I have heard the complaints of the Israelites. Tell them: At twilight you will eat meat, and in the morning you will eat bread until you are full. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God.” Exodus 16:12

Do you want more?

More was a word I was hearing prompting my heart yesterday. I was going that night to see the new area that has been built for the overcrowding student ministry and started thinking about that word “more” as I thought about those students. I have seen with my eyes the highschoolers in their unabandoned worship time and time again. Not just in the service but in those quiet Monday night worship and prayer nights on the front row in a room of adults.  Down on their knees as God’s Word is spoken. Or in a posture of their hands open. Not just there but at a local coffee shop where we have gone to see what is happening within this young community of young adults that want more called Abide. A room full of students and young adults hearing the truth of what it means to follow the Lord and watching them wanting more. As my husband and I stood back the oldest in that room that night it was that reminder that God was working in this almost full capacity coffee shop and showing them what they needed.

I went last night to that new space that would soon be filled with middle schoolers and high schoolers and I couldn't take it in. I started thinking about those kids that would come for the fun with their friends and imagined them gaining a relationship with God. It always encourages me to see how God can use those middle schoolers who become high schoolers and watch how they pour into the younger ones and share their lives. As I walked away from that room we placed prayers upon the wall. Mine said something of the sorts of, “More Lord. Give us more of you. Fill the place with Your Presence so they can know you more.

He wants to give us more.

It has been that way from the beginning of time. God has always wanted to be our Provider and we have wanted more. More of our ways. More of ourselves. More of what they have. And God clearly told them in Exodus He would provide so that they would know that He was the Provider. He was teaching them to trust Him just like He does with us today.

The only thing that stands in the way of what He wants for me is me..

More is a heart posture. It is believing what He says He will do. It is knowing that God is still working. That is always where I struggle. Sometimes He gives me little glimpses of seeing His faithfulness and other times it is choosing to believe that no matter He hears me and knows what I need.

Father,

More of you means less of me. You are the Provider. You are the Sustainer. You hold all things in your hands. So help us to release that grip and surrender to you all those things that we are holding onto. You are the One who is able to do immeasurably more than we could ever ask or imagine to God’s power that is work within us. So give us more of you Jesus it is all so that others can know your love. Amen
