We Belong

 We Belong

We were created to belong to something bigger than ourselves. Left alone dependent upon ourselves we will live our lives trying to fill that God shaped whole within us with the things that never satisfy. Belonging is a common thing no matter the age. From preschoolers that play a game of football running up and down the field together in a gang to chase the ball and get it to those other ones. To the preschoolers that you see thick as thieves and then decide, “You can’t be my friend” to watch the ones get excluded walk away in tears. As adults we long to belong. The exclusion doesn’t change much and the need to want to belong grows stronger. We might not say it out loud but how many of us scroll Social Media to see those things and say to ourselves, “Look at what they are doing and desire the same things within our lives. I recently heard the Surgeon General’s Advisory is now about isolation and loneliness. Not drugs and alcohol.  In 2026 the epidemic of loneliness and isolation.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” 1 Peter 2:9

God’s people. Peter wrote to the scattered people. Encouraging, “Remember your purpose and that you can grow right where you have been placed.” Proclaiming the praises of remembering what we have been brought from. Belonging not to our fears or anxieties but a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and bought by the precious blood of Jesus. In the middle of a world plagued with isolation and anxiety and remembering that we belong to Jesus and and we carry the praises of the One who redeemed us. Our calling to praise. But we aren’t going to feel like praising a large majority of our lives but praising is an act of faith.

Do you have a community that you belong to? Do you have those friends that will encourage you in truth?

We can be those people to one another. We belong together as One in Christ.
