Do Not Forget
“Listen, Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. These words I am giving you today are to be in your heart.” Deuteronomy 6:4-5
I got to watch a symphony together with a bunch of preschoolers today. The instruments were brass and strings and together they played music that was so beautiful I forgot I was in a preschool classroom. As they demonstrated each instrument the different sounds that came out of them came together in a way that even made the squirrels outside sit up in the window. As the classroom filled with the melody, watching them together made me notice how they were playing in a way that they each knew one another. As each demonstrated I learned some even had accents and were from different countries. But together they sounded as one.
I have been reading Deuteronomy lately. A book I never would have thought to touch in the past is a book that has been a reminder of my heart lately. Remember. That is what I have felt the Lord telling me lately. Don’t look back you need to look forward. Just like those Israelites I forget so easily. This book was God teaching them about their relationship with Him and He was taking everything that they knew and replacing it with how they were meant to live. They were learning to hear His voice. They were learning how to be as One in Him. They were moving from independent living to how to depend on God alone.
How many times does my heart get in the way of what God is trying for me to understand?
He instructs me in His ways but it is my choice to listen.
I have a listening problem. I have realized this more and more. I want to listen to the voice of what I am feeling, and seeing, and experiencing instead of listening to the One who calms it all. That path that He has allowed for me is narrow but it is the only way I will receive Peace and Clarity living in this world. The melody of my heart can take notice and find a posture of praise when I am allowing worship to be my response in it all. The enemy of my mind has no place when God says I don’t have to fear and I can take heart because He has overcome the world. And that is a promise when I know my Promise Keeper.
Father,
You came for us to live in flesh. You died for us so that we could know you as our Savior. You walk before us, with us, and lead the way when we listen. You are our Hope and Future. We glorify you alone King Jesus.
Amen
